HOWDY!!

My name is Sara Lynn Willis, and I have the privilege of instructing Principles of Health Science and Pharmacology this year. This will be my first year teaching, and I am truly honored that it will be at AMCHS! Prior to obtaining my certification to teach Health Science Technology, I had a career for 20+ years in the medical field. Throughout the years I have worked as a Certified Ophthalmic Technician, Clinical Supervisor and Coding Specialist for several different clinics and offices throughout the Bryan-College Station community.  I came to realize about 4 years ago when my daughter decided to become an educator that my passion all along has been to teach. One of my favorite parts of my previous career has always been the training aspect and teaching new hires how the medical field "works". I am absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to open these doors for my students this year to show them all that Health Science Technology has to offer.
My husband, Matt, and I both attended Texas A&M University (20+ years ago!!) and loved the community so much we never left. Mr. Willis currently works at Texas A&M University in Media and Marketing for the Corps of Cadets, and would love to talk to you about joining the Corps anytime! He also recently started graduate school pursuing an MBA. We have 2 children who have grown up through College Station ISD, both graduating from AMCHS. Lauren, now 20, participated in the Ready, Set, Teach program here at Consol and is currently at Blinn with plans to transfer to TAMU next Spring. She plans to teach Middle/Junior High School History/ELA upon graduation. Brent, 18, has just finished high school and plans to serve our country in the United States Army before attending college. He also achieved the rank of Eagle Scout this past spring (proud mama moment!). Both of them also played in the Tiger Band, so I have a soft spot for the Mighty Band from Tigerland...
My two children have been my main inspiration for deciding to change careers after all this time, each for different reasons. My daughter has the passion for teaching that I have re-discovered in myself, and I am so proud of her for wanting to take on one of the most challenging age groups to influence.  My son has shown me that high schools need better programs for those students who may not
be college bound, at least not immediately following graduation. Health Science Technology is absolutely a program that will show students that not only are there physicians, researchers and bio-technologists, but also so many opportunities that do not require 4 year university degrees. Every time you go to a medical appointment, look around at how many employees there play an integral role in your health care...each one is necessary. It is MY job to show you why.
